Saint Trinity Lavra Monastery. Underground Monk Cells
Drive to Sergiev Posad from Moscow is approximately 1,5 hours, one way.
Visit to Saint Trinity Lavra Monastery (appr. 1 hour) - one of Russia's most important
religious centers founded in the mid-14th century and in 1993 declared a World Heritage Site by
UNESCO. The picturesque ensemble of the monastery itself, comprising over 50 buildings and
other structures, is a true gem of Russian architecture and often called "The Russian Vatican".
Underground Monk Cells - located in men's monastery founded in 1847 which has
underground hand-dug monk prayer cells. Local guide will explain the lifestyle of Russian
monks and share fascinating stories of what happened there during Soviet "no religion" period.

Matrioshka Factory (1 hour) - welcomes guests to watch production of the most famous
Russian souvenir, the nesting doll - Matryoshka. Afterwards, you have a chance to paint your
own wooden doll to take home with you.
Russian Bells (1 hour) - exhibition of working old and modern bells of different shapes and
sounds. This 1,5 hour tour will give you a chance to learn about difference types of bells and
hear a soothing short melodies.
